User Manual
New Publication Fetch / Split (Main Menu)
This feature is for individually fetching a publication by entering a number and splitting it into a body (description + claims) PDF and a drawings PDF — not for the batch retrieval from the document list window. Typical use cases:
- A new reference was cited in a second office action and needs to be added to the existing category PDFs.
- Batch retrieval from the document list window partially failed and needs to be fixed.
It also supports local splitting by drag-and-drop of a user-obtained PDF, for cases where a publication cannot be fetched (too old, not in Google Patents).
1. How to Launch
- Click "Launch New Publication Fetch/Split App" in the Main Menu.
2. Input Fields
- Label (optional) — e.g. D1, [Pub]. Prepended to the output filename.
- Publication number (required) — Google Patents format. May be auto-normalised after entry.
- Output folder (required) — defaults to Desktop or case folder depending on launch context.
3. Local Split (Drop a PDF)
- Drop the publication PDF onto the bottom area.
- The publication number field is auto-filled from the filename and the output folder is set to the source folder.
- Enter a label if needed and click "Execute".
4. Web Fetch (No PDF drop)
- Enter label (optional) and publication number (required).
- Select output folder.
- Click "Execute".
5. Output Files
Saved to the specified output folder. Typically:
- (Body) Label_PublicationNumber_2.pdf
- (Drawings) Label_PublicationNumber_3.pdf
6. Common Errors
"Chrome not found"
Web fetch requires Chrome. If Chrome is installed but not detected, specify chrome.exe in Settings. Local split works without Chrome.
"No publication exists for this number"
The entered number is a type that has no publication (e.g. DE D1, GB D0).
