PDF Output for E-Paper / Tablet

Patent documents retrieved by automatic collection and specified non-patent documents are organised and split by category as specified in the document list window, then merged by category and output as PDFs in a format suitable for e-paper and tablet devices.

1. Patent Document Output

  • Retrieved patent publication PDFs are split by category, then merged and output per category.
  • For US and EP publications (where the body text font is small), PDO retrieves text data from Google Patents and converts it to PDF for better readability. If the Google Patents text data contains garbled characters or broken formulae, the output PDF may not exactly match the original publication.

2. Header Insertion

In each category PDF, a header generated from the label and document name specified in the document list window is inserted at the beginning of each document, making it easy to identify which document you are reading even when many are merged.

3. Bookmark (Outline) Insertion

3.1 Descriptions category
  • For documents specified by publication number, bookmarks are attached according to the publication type and country code. Paragraph numbers are used as bookmarks where detectable; otherwise page numbers are used.
  • The bookmark hierarchy is: Level 1 — document ID; Level 2 — paragraph/page groups; Level 3 — all paragraphs/pages.
3.2 Figures category

Page-number bookmarks (Page 2, Page 3…) are added for PDFs; Word files are converted to PDF first, then page-number bookmarks are added.

3.3 Claims / Other Documents categories

Simple filename bookmarks or page-number bookmarks are added based on the settings in the document list window.
